Game Overview

I picked up Pac-Panic for the Game Boy back in 1994, a Namco release that felt a little different from the usual maze chases on the platform. It wasn't trying to be another port or a straightforward sequel; it had its own puzzle twist that stood out among the action and platformers of the time.

You control Pac-Man, but instead of navigating a maze, you slide rows of tiles to create paths and trap ghosts. The goal is to clear each screen by eating all the dots while avoiding the enemies that still roam freely. The main mechanics involve shifting tile rows left or right to open up routes or block ghosts, and sometimes you reveal power pellets to turn the tables. The pace is methodical but tense, with the difficulty ramping up as more ghosts appear and the layouts get trickier. It feels like solving a sliding block puzzle under pressure, where one wrong move can corner you completely.
