Der Patrizier is one of those classic Amiga trading sims that somehow makes buying and selling grain feel exciting. You start as a small-time merchant with a single ship, trying to turn a profit by hauling goods between medieval European ports. The interface is all numbers and menus, but there's something weirdly satisfying about watching your trade empire grow.
At first, you'll probably lose money on bad deals (I definitely did), but once you figure out which cities pay top dollar for wool or spices, it clicks. The third disk expands the game with more goods and ports—just when you think you've mastered the basics. The music's surprisingly good too, for a game about spreadsheets with sails.
It's not flashy, but there's a real charm to slowly building your fleet and outmaneuvering rival traders. You'll catch yourself muttering "just one more shipment" at 2 AM.
