Play Phantasy Star Collection Online
Explore dungeons, battle foes in turn-based combat, and uncover stories across three classic RPGs in Phantasy Star Collection on Game Boy Advance.
I picked up Phantasy Star Collection on Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a compilation put together by Sega. It was a time when handhelds were really starting to offer deeper, more involved games, and having three classic RPGs in one cartridge felt like a solid deal. These were originally released on the Sega Master System and Genesis, so playing them on the go was a new kind of convenience, even if they showed their age.
You control a party of adventurers across three separate games, each with its own story and goals, like overthrowing a tyrannical ruler or exploring a multi-planet narrative. The gameplay involves turn-based combat, exploring towns for clues, and mapping out complex, first-person dungeons where you have to pay close attention to your steps. The pacing can be slow by today's standards, and the random encounters keep you on your toes, but there's a real sense of accomplishment in pushing through the tougher segments. It feels like uncovering a piece of gaming history with every session.
