Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure on Sega Genesis is one of those games that looks simple at first—just running and jumping through jungles—but then throws curveballs at you constantly. You play as Harry Jr., swinging on vines, dodging traps, and chucking boomerangs at bats and snakes. The bungee jumping sections still stress me out—time it wrong, and you’re splat on the rocks below.

The levels get wild fast, from collapsing mines to waterfalls where you’re basically hopping between logs like a panicked frog. And yeah, you’ll die. A lot. But the controls are tight, and once you get the rhythm of Harry’s movements, it’s weirdly satisfying to nail a tricky jump or finally take down that one obnoxious enemy that kept wrecking you. Just don’t expect the Mayans to go easy on you.
