Pocahontas on the Game Boy came out in 1996, developed by Tiertex and published by THQ. It was one of many licensed platformers from that time, built to tie in with the Disney film. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it does a decent job of capturing the movie's forest setting on the small screen.
You control Pocahontas as she runs, jumps, and climbs through side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue John Smith by navigating through woods, caves, and river rapids. You use a bow to shoot arrows at enemies like wolves and hostile tribesmen, and Meeko the raccoon will sometimes toss fruit to help you break barriers or find hidden items. The platforming requires careful timing, especially during the auto scrolling river sections where mistakes are costly. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes unforgiving adventure that relies on memorization and quick reflexes.
