I picked up Pocahontas on the Sega Genesis back in 1996, a time when Disney Interactive was putting out a lot of licensed platformers. It wasn't the most talked about game, but it had a certain look and feel that fit right in with other Genesis titles of the era, colorful and straightforward.
You play as Pocahontas, moving through side scrolling levels, jumping across platforms, and avoiding obstacles like falling rocks or hostile settlers. Your main goal is to reach the end of each stage, but along the way you collect spirit tokens and use animal friends to help you; Meeko the raccoon digs up items, and Flit the hummingbird can stun enemies. The pacing is fairly quick, though some sections, like precise jumps over bottomless pits, can be frustrating. It feels like a typical 16 bit platformer with a pleasant, if not particularly deep, flow.
