Pocket Soccer came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Denyusha and published by Natsume. It was one of those straightforward sports titles that filled out the handheld's library, offering a quick alternative to the deeper, more complex games of the era.
You control a team of small, chibi-style players on a top-down field, using the D-pad to move and two buttons for passing and shooting. The main goal is to outscore your opponent, but the real fun comes from the game's physics; the ball bounces unpredictably off players and the walls, and matches often turn into frantic scrambles in front of the goal. The pace is fast, and the AI provides a decent challenge without feeling unfair. It feels like a chaotic, condensed version of soccer that's perfect for short bursts of play.
