Play Popeye 2 (Japan) Online
Guide Popeye through side-scrolling levels, punch Bluto, grab spinach for a power-up, and rescue Olive Oyl in this 1991 Game Boy platformer.
Popeye 2 for the Game Boy came out in 1991, developed by Copya System. It was part of that wave of licensed games that tried to squeeze recognizable characters into simple platforming adventures. You see a lot of these on the system; some are forgettable, but a few have their own odd appeal.
You control Popeye, moving through side scrolling stages to rescue Olive Oyl. The main goal is to reach the end of each level, punching enemies like Bluto and grabbing spinach cans for temporary invincibility. Levels are short and straightforward, with some vertical climbing and basic enemy patterns. The pacing is brisk, though the controls feel a bit stiff at times, and the challenge comes more from repetition than complexity. It feels like a quick, unpolished distraction that somehow stays enjoyable in small doses.
