Game Overview

Ports of Call is one of those old-school Amiga games that makes running a shipping empire weirdly addictive. You start by picking a home port—I always went with Hamburg for some reason—then scrape together cash for your first rusty cargo ship. The real fun begins when you start hunting for profitable routes, balancing fuel costs, repairs, and the occasional desperate bid to haul bananas before they rot.

It’s not all spreadsheets, though. Every now and then, you’re thrown into these tense little action bits where you’re manually docking your tanker in a storm or fishing survivors out of the water. Mess up, and that’s your profit margin sinking to the bottom. The multiplayer mode turns it into a cutthroat race—nothing like watching your friend’s overpriced luxury liner run aground because they skimped on hull repairs.

Somehow, after three decades, I still fire it up just to see if I can finally afford that megafreighter without going bankrupt first.
