Game Overview

I first encountered Psycho Squares Deluxe on the Amiga back in 1982. It was developed by a small team whose name escapes me now, but it fit right in with the kind of experimental puzzle games that were starting to pop up on the platform. The game didn't try to be flashy; it just presented a clean grid and let the mechanics speak for themselves.

You control a cursor to swap adjacent colored squares, aiming to match three or more of the same color to clear them from the board. The main objective is to keep the board from filling up, which gets harder as the squares drop faster. Signature mechanics include chain reactions, where one match causes others to fall into place, and special power-up squares that clear entire rows or columns when matched. The pacing is relentless, especially in Time Attack mode, where every second counts. Playing it feels like a constant race against the grid, demanding quick decisions and a sharp eye.
