Hollywood Squares for the NES came out in 1989, developed by Rare and published by GameTek. It was one of many game show adaptations on the system, a straightforward translation of the TV program where you played tic-tac-toe against a computer opponent by answering trivia questions posed by a grid of celebrities.
You control the contestant, selecting a square and then agreeing or disagreeing with the celebrity's answer to a multiple-choice question. The main objective is to get three in a row on the board before your opponent does. Key mechanics include judging whether a celebrity is telling the truth or bluffing, and winning individual games to earn spins on a bonus wheel for prizes like vacations or a new car. The pacing is methodical, built around short trivia rounds, and the difficulty comes from the unpredictability of the celebrities' honesty. It feels like a relaxed, sometimes silly test of your gut instinct more than pure knowledge.
