Play Squares Online

Squares is one of those games that came bundled in the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a simple two-player strategy title that feels right at home on a floppy disk. It doesn't have a flashy publisher name attached; it was just there, a quiet option among the early PC offerings. You'd load it up on a beige box monitor, the green or amber text a familiar sight, ready for a quick match.

You control a cursor that moves tile by tile across a grid, claiming neutral squares or capturing your opponent's by surrounding them. The main objective is to dominate the board, turning more squares to your color than the other player. Its signature mechanics involve strategic placement to trigger chain reactions and careful corner control to avoid giving up large sections in a single move. The pacing is methodical, almost tense, because a misstep can flip the entire game in an instant. It feels like a very pure, very brutal form of chess played on a grid of light.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
