Play Quake 64 (Europe) Online
Blasting through Quake’s eerie corridors with an N64 controller feels janky at first, but once it clicks, the low-poly chaos and chunky MIDI soundtrack make it weirdly addictive. Split-screen multiplayer’s a messy good time if you’ve got friends who don’t mind squinting.
Quake 64 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, published by Midway Games. It was a time when bringing a PC first-person shooter to a console felt ambitious, even a little strange. The hardware had clear limits, but the game managed to squeeze a lot of Quake’s dark, industrial atmosphere onto the cartridge.
You control a lone soldier fighting through military bases and gothic dimensions overrun by monsters. The goal is simple: find keys, activate switches, and survive each level to reach the exit. The game relies on fast movement, circle strafing, and switching between weapons like the shotgun and rocket launcher to handle different enemies. It moves quickly, and the challenge stays high, especially in later stages. Playing it feels tense and immediate, like every corner could hide something waiting to jump out.
