Red Zone is one of those Sega Genesis games that makes you wonder how they squeezed so much chaos into a 16-bit cartridge. You're basically dumped into an Apache helicopter with one job: stop a nuclear-armed dictator before he starts World War III. The moment you take off, you realize this isn't some arcade shooter—you've got fuel gauges blinking at you, missiles that actually run out, and a chopper that handles like a drunk bull if you take too much damage.
The coolest part? Every few missions, your crew actually hops out of the helicopter for some tense building raids. You get to pick between three operatives (if they're still alive—no respawns here), each packing different weapons. I always went with the shotgun guy because subtlety wasn't really this game's style.
It plays like Desert Strike's more hardcore cousin, with a straight-down view that somehow makes dodging missiles even more stressful. And just when you think you've got the hang of it, your radar starts glitching out because your helicopter's falling apart. The whole thing has that same punishing-but-fair vibe as Sub-Terrania, another Genesis gem that loved to kick your teeth in while looking gorgeous doing it.
