Explore an island, capture and customize Robopon, solve puzzles, and battle in three-on-three fights while fixing a broken future in Robopon 2: Ring Version for GBA.
Robopon 2: Ring Version came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Red Entertainment and published by Hudson Soft. It arrived during a time when the GBA library was filling out with all sorts of experimental RPGs and monster-collecting games, and this one definitely carved out its own strange little corner. You don't see many games that try to blend robot building with time travel and a shipwreck narrative, but that's exactly where it starts.
You control a young inventor who, after the crash, must use and modify a crew of small robots called Robopon to survive and investigate. Your main goal involves exploring the island screen by screen, delving into dungeons, and eventually using time travel to fix a broken future. The signature mechanics are all about your squad; you capture wild Robopon, customize their parts and software, and engage in three-on-three battles where you can tag teammates in and out mid-fight. The pacing is methodical, with a fair amount of backtracking and puzzle-solving that gives it a slower, thoughtful rhythm. It feels like piecing together a complex machine, where every new part or discovered path makes the whole system click into place just a little more.
