Rocket Knight Adventures came out on the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that wave of platformers that really tried to push the hardware, with detailed sprites and some clever mechanics that made it stand out from the crowd.
You control Sparkster, an opossum knight with a jet pack and a sword. Your goal is to rescue the princess from an army of robotic pigs. The signature moves are the rocket dash, which lets you blast through enemies and bounce off walls, and using your sword for close combat. The levels mix side-scrolling action with occasional shooter segments, and the difficulty is pretty relentless, demanding quick reflexes and smart use of your abilities. It feels fast, fluid, and surprisingly strategic for a game about a rocket-powered marsupial.
