Rockman 4—or Mega Man 4 if you grew up outside Japan—is where the series really starts feeling polished. That new charge shot? A total game-changer. You hold down the button, wait for that satisfying hum, and let loose a blast that actually makes some of those brutal Robot Master fights feel manageable. Bright Man’s stage still gives me flashbacks, though—those disappearing blocks over spikes are pure evil.
What I love about this one is how weirdly creative the weapons get. Rain Flush turns you into a walking storm cloud, and Dive Missile feels like cheating when you figure out how to spam it. And yeah, the soundtrack slaps—Toad Man’s theme is somehow both ridiculous and hype at the same time.
It’s not the hardest in the series, but that’s kind of the point. You can actually enjoy the tight controls and clever stage designs without wanting to throw your controller. Still has that classic NES jank in places, but that’s part of the charm.
