Okay, so Rocman X is this weird little NES game that feels like someone took Mega Man, ran it through a bootleg filter, and somehow made it work. The first stage hits you with these offbeat enemy designs—like walking mushrooms with laser eyes—and music that’s clearly trying to be the Blue Bomber’s soundtrack but ends up sounding like it’s being played through a tin can. In a good way.
It’s janky, sure, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about it. The jumping feels just floaty enough to mess you up at first, but once you adjust, you’ll be sliding past spikes and taking down bosses that look like they were designed during someone’s lunch break. My favorite’s this one that’s basically a floating TV with arms.
If you’re into obscure retro stuff, this is one of those games that makes you go, “Wait, how was this even a thing?” Definitely more fun than it has any right to be.
