Play Rolling Thunder (Unl) Online
You creep through dim hallways as a trenchcoat spy, popping up to take quick shots before ducking back into the shadows—one wrong move and those ski-mask goons swarm you. The NES version still punishes you, but at least you won’t go broke on continues.

Rolling Thunder on NES is one of those arcade ports that somehow feels both brutally hard and weirdly satisfying. You play as this trenchcoat-wearing spy (or maybe a fedora-toting detective?) sneaking through shadowy corridors, popping up to shoot enemies before ducking back into cover. The controls are simple—jump, shoot, duck—but the level layouts force you to actually time your moves instead of just blasting away.
First level tricks you into thinking it’s easy, then suddenly you’re getting swarmed by guys in ski masks while the music gets all tense. Pro tip: memorize where the doorways are—half the game is sprinting to those before your health runs out. It’s got that old-school "quarter muncher" vibe, but the NES version at least lets you retry without digging for loose change.
Still holds up if you like your action games punishing but fair. Just don’t throw your controller when the bosses cheat.
