Game Overview

Royal Blood is one of those Sega Genesis games that slipped under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. You start off leading a ragtag army through this gloomy, gothic world where every decision—who to trust, which battles to fight—actually matters. The card-based combat threw me at first (I kept losing fights trying to brute-force it), but once it clicks, you realize how clever it is.

The pixel art nails that brooding medieval vibe, all shadowy castles and blood-red skies. And the music? Perfectly unsettling. It’s like if someone mashed up Fire Emblem’s strategy with Castlevania’s atmosphere and then tossed in a deck of tarot cards for good measure. Just expect to replay a few battles when your carefully laid plans go sideways—which they will.

Honestly, it’s a shame more people haven’t played this. Still holds up if you’re into tactical RPGs with bite.
