Play S.C.A.T Online
Blast through waves of alien invaders with a friend, using jetpacks and strategic firepower in this challenging side-scrolling shooter for the NES.
I picked up S.C.A.T. for the NES back in 1990, a side-scrolling shooter from Natsume that came out when the console was already crowded with action games. It didn't have the flashiest marketing, but it stood out for its solid mechanics and cooperative play, fitting right in with the era's demand for tough, arcade-style experiences you could tackle with a friend.
You control one of two armored soldiers, equipped with jetpacks, tasked with clearing each screen of alien invaders across five stages. Your main weapons are two orbiting options that fire automatically; you can lock them into fixed positions to concentrate fire on bosses or larger enemies. The game progresses screen by screen, requiring you to eliminate all foes before moving forward, which adds a methodical pace to the shooting chaos. It's fairly difficult, with enemy patterns that demand quick positioning and smart use of your options. Navigating the crumbling cityscapes while managing your firepower gives a satisfying sense of control amid the constant alien onslaught.
