SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha (or Final Fantasy Legend III if you grew up with the English version) is one of those Game Boy RPGs that somehow crammed an entire sci-fi epic into a tiny cartridge. You start off in a ruined future, then bounce between time periods—prehistoric jungles, floating cities, even a post-apocalyptic wasteland—while your crew slowly mutates into cyborgs, monsters, or whatever weird upgrades you stumble into.
The combat’s simple but satisfying, especially when you start stacking abilities like laser swords or dragon breath. And yeah, there’s a flying whale. No explanation, it just shows up. It’s janky in that classic early-90s way, but the sheer ambition (and the fact it actually holds together) makes it way more memorable than most RPGs twice its size. Perfect for long car rides or pretending to pay attention in class back in the day.
