SaGa 3 on the DS is one of those RPGs that starts simple and then suddenly dumps a ton of weird, cool systems on you. You pick between two factions—Shadow or Light—and the choice actually changes how the story unfolds, which is rare for a remake. The combat’s turn-based but with this twist where your attacks chain together if you time them right, so battles feel way more dynamic than your average menu-spamming RPG.

At first, I thought the character progression was just leveling up stats, but nope—it’s that classic SaGa weirdness where your skills evolve based on what you use in battle. My sword guy randomly learned a fire slash after spamming regular attacks, and I was hooked. The pixel art’s gorgeous too, especially for a DS game. Just don’t expect hand-holding; this one’s happy to let you stumble into overpowered enemies if you wander too far.
