Pokémon HeartGold is basically the DS remake of Gold/Silver, but with way more polish—and yeah, your Pokémon actually follow behind you like little ducklings, which is way more charming than it sounds. You start off in Johto (same cozy vibes as the original), picking your starter—Cyndaquil’s my go-to, but good luck resisting Totodile’s dumb little face.
It’s got all the classic gym battles and random trainer fights, but the big surprise is how alive the world feels now. Your lead Pokémon trots behind you, reacts to stuff, and even picks up items sometimes. Also, the Pokéathlon minigames are weirdly addictive—like, who knew making a Pikachu do hurdle jumps would be this entertaining?
If you’ve played the old GBC versions, this is that but with smoother controls, better sprites, and way fewer reasons to yell at your screen. Still one of the best Pokémon remakes out there.
