Game Overview
Pokémon HeartGold is basically a love letter to the Johto region—it takes everything great about the original Gold/Silver and polishes it up with DS-era graphics and some neat extras. You start off in New Bark Town (that nostalgic music still hits), pick your starter, and before long you're wandering through routes full of wild Pokémon, trying to decide whether to grind levels or just push forward to the next gym.
The Pokéwalker is this weird little pedometer thing that lets you take your Pokémon for walks in real life—kinda gimmicky, but weirdly satisfying when you check it later and find your Pidgey leveled up just from being in your pocket all day. And having your lead Pokémon follow you on-screen? Still one of the best small touches in the series.
It’s got that classic Pokémon loop of battling, catching, and team-building, but with enough quality-of-life tweaks to make revisiting Johto feel fresh. Just watch out for Whitney’s Miltank—that thing’s still a nightmare.
