Pokémon HeartGold is basically the best way to revisit Johto—it takes everything great about the original Gold/Silver and polishes it up with smoother visuals, better pacing, and that little Pokéwalker gadget that lets you take your favorite Pokémon for a walk in real life (weirdly charming, honestly).
You start off in New Bark Town like always, but everything just feels... nicer. The sprites have more personality, the music’s crisper, and your lead Pokémon actually follows behind you on the overworld, which is a small touch that makes the whole journey way more fun. First time I sent out my Cyndaquil and saw it trotting after me, I grinned like an idiot.
It’s still the same classic Pokémon RPG—gym battles, random encounters, that one guy who won’t stop throwing Zubats at you—but with enough tweaks to keep it from feeling dated. And yeah, you can totally lose hours just trying to catch ’em all.
