Sagaia on GB is basically the Game Boy trying its hardest to be an arcade cabinet—and somehow pulling it off. You’ve got this tiny screen, but the moment you start, it’s all flashing bullets, weird mechanical fish bosses, and that classic Darius vibe crammed into greyscale. Your ship feels way too small for the chaos, which is exactly how it should be.
The first time a screen-filling boss appears, you’ll laugh at how ridiculous it looks on a Game Boy... until it kills you in three seconds. The branching paths are a nice touch—pick a route, immediately regret it when you hit a brutal enemy formation, then try a different one next run. And yeah, the music’s shockingly good for a handheld this old; those crunchy basslines stick in your head.
It’s not the prettiest or smoothest shooter out there, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about beating a level on your third try during a bus ride. Just don’t expect mercy from the later stages.
