Play Seicross (Japan) Online
Ride a hoverbike, clear stages of enemies, dodge attacks and mines, and master the drifting controls in this unique maze-like shooter from 1985.
Seicross came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, published by Nichibutsu. It was part of that early wave of NES games, a time when developers were still figuring out what the system could do and players were hungry for anything that felt different from the arcade ports. This one always stood out to me because it wasn't trying to be another platformer or space shooter; it had its own strange, grid-based identity.
You control a rider on a sort of hoverbike, navigating a series of single-screen maze-like stages from an isometric perspective. Your main objective is to clear each stage of all enemy creatures by shooting them while also dodging their attacks and the static mines scattered around the environment. Two mechanics define the experience: the way your bike continues to drift slightly after you let go of the direction pad, and the separate firing button that lets you shoot independently of your movement. The pacing is methodical, almost puzzle-like at first, but it gets brutally fast in later stages where one mistake can end your run. It feels like a tense, calculated dance through a hostile circuit, and when you finally get the rhythm down, the satisfaction is immense.
