Play Serpent Online
Two snakes, one tiny arena—you’re both slithering around, trying to box each other in with your own tails while dodging sudden rocket ambushes. Feels like chess at 100mph on a Game Boy screen.

Serpent came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Nexoft. It was one of those early handheld titles that didn't try to be epic; it just offered a simple, focused idea. In an era where many games were scaled-down versions of console hits, Serpent felt like its own little thing, built for quick sessions and direct competition.
You control a snake that leaves a solid trail behind it as it moves. The goal is to force the other snake (either an AI opponent or a second player) to crash into a wall, your trail, or its own. You can collect power-ups that let you fire rockets across the screen or temporarily make your own trail passable. The pacing is fast and tense; mistakes are immediate, and the small arena means there's nowhere to hide. It feels like a high-speed game of chicken where every turn could be your last.
