Game Overview

Serpentine was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, a release that bundled several titles from that era. It was developed by David Snider and published by Broderbund, fitting right into the late 80s landscape of simple, addictive games designed for quick sessions. You would typically find it alongside other early PC shareware, a product of its time before elaborate graphics and complex stories became the norm.

You control a brightly colored worm, moving it around a single screen to collect eggs and power-ups while your tail grows longer with every item you take. The main objective is to survive as long as possible without colliding with the walls, your own expanding body, or any enemy creatures that appear. Signature mechanics include picking up eggs that change your tail's behavior, sometimes making it shorter or even reversing your controls entirely, and the ability for two players to compete on the same keyboard, turning the game into a chaotic battle for space. The pacing is fast and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and careful planning to avoid boxing yourself in. It feels tense and unpredictable, a constant race against your own mistakes.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
