Game Overview

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 is one of those games that still holds up decades later—if you can get past the pixelated charm of its MS-DOS roots. You start by picking a faction (I always leaned toward the Warlocks because, let’s be real, who doesn’t want an army of genies and hydras?), then spend your turns exploring fog-covered maps, grabbing resources, and recruiting weird little creatures to follow your hero into battle.

The fights are where it gets really tactical. Positioning matters—archers in the back, tanks up front—and even weak units can turn the tide if you use them right. Upgrading your troops feels satisfying, like watching your wimpy skeletons become bone dragons. And the spell system? Way better than the first game. No more memorizing spells—just cast whatever you’ve got the mana for.

It’s got that classic ‘90s strategy vibe: simple to learn, tough to master, and packed with enough factions and scenarios to keep you hooked. The soundtrack’s also weirdly great for something this old. If you’ve ever wondered why people still talk about this series, Heroes 2 is the reason.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
