Might & Magic Book II came out on the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by New World Computing. It was part of that wave of ambitious RPGs trying to bring a deeper, computer-style experience to consoles, with all the compromises and surprises that entailed.

You control a party of up to six adventurers, customizing their classes and skills as you explore a large world screen by screen. The main goal involves piecing together clues from townsfolk and ancient lore to stop a spreading evil, which sends you deep into monster-filled dungeons and across hazardous wilderness. Combat is turn-based, requiring careful management of spells and equipment, and the game doesn’t hold your hand, you’ll need to take notes, manage rations, and cope with frequent, deadly encounters. It feels methodical and demanding, like solving a vast puzzle where every wrong step has consequences.
