Game Overview

I picked up World Heroes for the Sega Genesis back in 1994, a port of ADK's arcade fighter. It was a time when every developer was trying to get a piece of the fighting game craze, and this one stood out mostly for its strange cast of characters pulled from different time periods. It wasn't as polished as the big names, but it had a certain charm in its oddball presentation.

You choose a fighter like a ninja or a caveman and battle through a series of one-on-one matches. The main goal is to deplete your opponent's life bar, either by landing standard attacks or by knocking them into the stage hazards, like electrified fences or spiked walls. The controls feel a bit stiff compared to other fighters of the era, and some of the character movements are awkward. Matches can be surprisingly difficult due to some cheap AI tactics, but the sheer absurdity of the characters and the deadly arenas keep it interesting. It feels like a rough, chaotic brawl where the stage is often your biggest enemy.
