Game Overview

World Heroes came out in arcades in 1992, developed by ADK and published by SNK. It was part of that wave of fighting games that followed Street Fighter II, offering its own take on the genre with a cast of historical and fictional fighters. The game didn't redefine anything, but it had a certain charm that made it stand out in a crowded cabinet lineup.

You pick one of several fighters, like Hanzou the ninja or Jeanne d'Arc, and battle through a series of one-on-one matches. The main goal is to defeat each opponent and become the champion. Signature mechanics include a two-tiered attack system with strong and weak blows, and some stages feature deadly hazards like electric barriers that can damage both players. The pacing is faster than many contemporaries, and the difficulty can feel uneven, with some cheap AI moves. It feels like a straightforward, slightly janky brawler that captures the experimental energy of early '90s arcade fighters.
