Game Overview

Faria: A World of Mystery & Danger! came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed by Game Arts. It was part of that wave of late-era NES games that tried to push the hardware a bit further, offering a bigger world and more complex mechanics than many of its contemporaries. You explore a large, connected map from a top-down perspective, moving screen by screen into towns, caves, and sprawling dungeons.

You control a warrior named Ray, and your main goal is to rescue the princess from an evil sorcerer. The game blends overhead exploration with real-time combat; you swing your sword or use a bow at monsters that roam the wilderness and dungeons. A key mechanic is managing your inventory and equipment carefully, as you'll need specific items to progress through locked doors and environmental obstacles. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with maze-like dungeons that demand mapping and frequent trips back to town to heal. It feels like a substantial, sometimes grueling adventure that rewards patience and thorough exploration.
