Game Overview

So Mystery Quest is this NES game where you play as Hao, a rookie wizard trying to impress his master. The old guy hid four magic talismans in different castles, because apparently that's how wizards give job evaluations.

You start with this basic magic shot—kinda weak at first, but you can power it up once later. The controls are simple but weirdly flexible: you can shoot straight, jump-shot, or even angle shots upward. There are a few helpful items scattered around, but don't expect a huge arsenal—this game keeps things pretty stripped down.

You'll bounce between three types of areas: the overworld (which feels oddly empty), castle interiors (where most of the action happens), and these claustrophobic underground tunnels. The whole thing has this rough-around-the-edges charm, like they couldn't decide if they wanted an adventure game or an action platformer.
