Game Overview

Contra Force came out on the NES in 1992 from Konami, a time when side-scrollers were the standard. It was a spin-off that tried something a little different from the usual run and gun formula, putting you in charge of a small anti-terrorist squad instead of just one or two super soldiers. It had a unique vibe, a bit more tactical on the surface, but it still delivered that classic, chaotic Contra action.

You control a team of four commandos, each with their own specialty weapon, and you can swap between them on the fly. The main goal is to fight through urban environments, clearing out enemies screen by screen. You'll find hidden weapon pods to upgrade your firepower, and the game mixes up the perspective with some top-down shooting sections. It's a tough game, with the screen often filling up with enemy fire, demanding quick reflexes and smart character switching. It feels like managing a small, very loud, and very explosive unit in the middle of a city-wide firefight.
