Game Overview

Shining Force II – Koe no Fuuin (or The Ancient Seal if you played it outside Japan) is one of those Genesis RPGs that just sticks with you. You start off leading this ragtag group—some knights, a few mages, even this weird little rat guy who chucks cheese at enemies—and before long, you're knee-deep in grid-based battles that actually make you think. The story's got that classic "ancient evil returns" vibe, but with enough twists and recruitable oddballs to keep it fun.

What I love is how it mixes strategy with exploration. Between fights, you're poking around towns, talking to villagers who sometimes join your cause (or sell you better gear), and stumbling onto hidden stuff—like, yeah, there's a whole dragon resurrection subplot because of course there is. The pixel art still looks great, and the music? Pure 16-bit magic. If you missed this back in the day, it's basically Fire Emblem with more personality and way more cheese-throwing rodents. Still one of the best tactical RPGs out there.
