Kung-Fu Heroes came out for the NES in 1984 from Culture Brain, a developer that put out a few quirky action games in those early years. It was part of that first wave of NES titles, the kind you'd rent on a Friday hoping for something simple and loud.
You control one of two martial artists, moving screen by screen through a palace to rescue a kidnapped princess. You punch and kick through a strange mix of enemies, like hopping goblins and knife throwers, while also collecting power-ups like a bow or a sword that change your attack. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty can feel cheap at times. It feels like a messy, frantic scramble from start to finish.
