Game Overview

Yie Ar Kung-Fu came out on the Sega Genesis in 1985, developed by Konami. It was one of the earlier fighting games on the system, a time when the genre was still figuring itself out, and it had a simple, almost bare-bones look compared to what came later.

You control a martial artist named Oolong, moving from one opponent to the next in a series of one-on-one fights. The goal is to defeat every fighter you face across eleven rounds. You have a limited set of moves: punch, kick, and jump, which you use to whittle down the other fighter's health bar before they deplete yours. Each enemy has a distinct, sometimes bizarre, fighting style, like a fighter who attacks with a chain or one who relies on acrobatic flips, forcing you to adapt your timing. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding you learn patterns through repetition. It feels like a scrappy, straightforward test of reflexes where every win is earned.
