Shadow Dancer doesn’t get enough love compared to the other Shinobi games, but honestly? It’s got this weird charm. You play as this ninja with a dog—yeah, an actual attack dog that mauls enemies on command—and the whole thing feels like a moody, slightly janky side-scroller with way more personality than it should.
The arcade version was flashier, but the Genesis port tweaked the levels and pacing. Some of the jumps are just barely doable, and the dog’s AI occasionally forgets it’s supposed to help you, but when it clicks? Throwing shurikens while your pup lunges at some goon never gets old. The music’s got that classic Sega synth grit too.
It’s not perfect, but it’s the kind of game you replay just to see if you can out-stubborn its quirks.
