Play Shikinjou (Japan) Online
You slide around swinging at bizarre dancing enemies in maze-like dungeons, solving weird block puzzles while questionable chiptunes play—it’s janky magic.

Shikinjou came out in 1991 for the NES, developed by Scap Trust. It's one of those late-era Famicom titles that feels a bit experimental, pushing the hardware in some odd directions while still being firmly rooted in the console's action-adventure traditions.
You control a young warrior exploring a series of multi-screen dungeons, clearing rooms of strange, hopping enemies with your sword. The main goal is to find and defeat the boss in each area, but the real challenge comes from the block-pushing puzzles and the slippery, momentum-based movement that makes precise positioning a constant struggle. The game is difficult, sometimes due to intentional design and other times because of its own quirky physics. It feels like wrestling with a stubborn, but occasionally brilliant, piece of early 90s game design.
