Game Overview

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children - Yami no Sho came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Multimedia Intelligence Transfer and published by Atlus. It was part of a wave of monster-collecting RPGs on the platform, a time when handhelds were really starting to offer deep, console-like adventures you could take anywhere.

You control a child protagonist navigating a world overrun by demons, exploring areas screen by screen and delving into dungeons. Your main goal is to befriend these creatures, negotiating with them to join your party, and later fusing them together to create more powerful allies. The combat is fast and turn-based, relying on elemental weaknesses, and the pacing stays brisk even when you're grinding. It feels tense and unpredictable, like you're always one wrong move away from a party wipe, but pulling off a perfect fusion makes all the risk worthwhile.
