Play Shin Megami Tensei II Online
The GBA version smooths out the SNES original—dungeons scroll properly now, and the pixel art’s packed with little details. Still the same demon-bargaining and tough choices, just less punishing if you don’t want the ’94 experience.

Shin Megami Tensei II came to the Game Boy Advance in 1994, developed and published by Atlus. It was a time when handhelds were starting to offer deeper, more complex RPGs, and this was one of the more serious ones you could carry around. The game presents a stark vision of a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, a setting that felt distinct from the brighter fantasy worlds common on the platform.
You control a young man created to bring order to a world overrun by demons, navigating the ruined city screen by screen. Your main goal is to explore massive dungeons, recruit demons through conversation, and fuse them to create stronger allies for turn-based battles. The pacing is deliberate, often slow, and the difficulty is unrelenting, demanding careful management of your party and resources. It feels like a tense, strategic crawl through a world that has completely given up on hope.
