Play Shin Momotarou Densetsu Online
You recruit a tail-wagging dog, a poop-flinging monkey, and a pheasant to battle onion samurai across storybook landscapes—it’s a folktale RPG that doesn’t take itself seriously.

I first played Shin Momotarou Densetsu on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1993, a Hudson Soft release that came out during a time when the console was full of ambitious, often quirky, Japanese role-playing games. It was based on the classic Momotaro folk tale, but it had its own distinct, almost playful, approach to the genre, standing apart from the more serious fantasy epics of the era.
You control Momotaro, the peach-born boy, and your main goal is to gather your famous animal companions—a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant—to defeat the invading Oni demons. The game plays out across separate, screen-by-screen areas that you explore, fighting enemies in turn-based battles that use a simple menu system. A key mechanic involves using your party's unique abilities to solve environmental puzzles and access new areas, like having the monkey climb or the bird fly. The pacing is fairly methodical, and the difficulty can spike in some dungeons, requiring a bit of grinding. It feels like navigating a living, interactive storybook where every successful fight brings you one step closer to restoring peace.
