Game Overview

Shrek 2 [f_5] on GBA is one of those licensed games that actually gets the vibe right. You switch between Shrek, Fiona, and other characters, each with their own moves—like Donkey's annoying but useful chatter that stuns enemies.

The levels feel like condensed versions of the movie's locations, with some weird platforming sections where you're tossing barrels or sneaking past guards. It's janky in that early 2000s handheld way, but the art style holds up surprisingly well for a GBA game.

What sticks with me is how the game forces you to use every character's ability, even if some feel clunky. You'll get stuck for a bit until you remember Puss in Boots can wall-jump, or that Fiona has this awkward double jump. It's frustrating but also kind of charming.

Shrek 2 [f_5] isn't groundbreaking, but it's better than most movie tie-ins from that era.
