I picked up Shrek: Hassle at the Castle back in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance. It was developed by Tiertex Design Studios and published by TDK Mediactive, one of those many licensed platformers that filled the shelves during the GBA's early years. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it's a straightforward side-scroller built around the movie's characters and humor.
You control Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona, switching between them to use their unique abilities. Shrek smashes obstacles and enemies with his strength, Donkey can perform a higher, floatier jump to reach platforms, and Fiona attacks with a rapid spin kick. The goal is to rescue the scattered pieces of a magic mirror by fighting through screen-by-screen levels, breaking every barrel and crate you see. The combat is simple but satisfying, though the platforming can feel a bit stiff and the difficulty spikes unexpectedly in later stages. It feels like a clunky but earnest attempt to bring the swamp to your hands.
