Shrek the Third came out on Game Boy Advance in 2007, published by Activision. It was one of many licensed games on the system, a time when handhelds were full of movie tie-ins, some better than others. This one stood out for trying to do a little more than just cash in on the name.
You control Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots, switching between them to use their unique abilities. Shrek smashes obstacles, Donkey kicks enemies and jumps higher, and Puss can climb walls and fit into small spaces. The goal is to rescue Fiona and reclaim the kingdom from Prince Charming. You explore screen by screen, fighting enemies with basic attacks, solving environmental puzzles that require the right character, and collecting items like health pickups and hidden fairies. The pacing is steady, and the difficulty is fair, though some of the hidden collectibles require careful searching. It feels like a straightforward but competent adventure that makes good use of the license.
