Play Side Arms Online
1989 Amiga side-scrolling shooter. Features dual-direction shooting, upgradeable weapons, boss battles, and multiple levels. Collect power-ups for lasers, spread shots, and homing missiles.
Side Arms came out on the Amiga in 1989, developed by Capcom. It was a solid entry in the side-scrolling shooter genre during a time when the platform was full of arcade conversions and ambitious original titles. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a straightforward, polished experience that felt right at home.
You pilot a small robotic suit, moving from left to right across each stage, shooting everything in your path. The main goal is simply to survive the onslaught of enemies and defeat the large boss waiting at the end of each level. Two key mechanics define the action: you can shoot both forward and backward, which is essential for dealing with enemies swarming from behind, and you collect power-up icons that cycle through various weapon upgrades, like a wide spread shot, a piercing laser, or seeking homing missiles. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and smart positioning. It feels like a constant, hectic scramble for firepower just to stay alive.
