Silent Assault came out in 1990 for the NES, published by Color Dreams. It was one of those late-era action games that tried to push the hardware a bit, though it still felt very much of its time, competing with a lot of other run-and-gun titles on the system.
You control a lone soldier fighting through alien-controlled military bases. The goal is to shoot your way through eight side-scrolling levels, rescuing hostages and destroying the alien core in each stage. You start with a weak pistol but can find better weapons, like a spread shot or a laser, by shooting certain walls or enemies. The pacing is relentless; enemies pour in from both sides of the screen, and the level design forces you to memorize patterns to survive. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble for better firepower just to stay alive.
